Although a relatively old scheme now, we felt it still worthy of inclusion here to illustrate how good design is important in the success of 'place creation'; somewhere people want to live and can stand the test of time.

This redevelopment of a former hospital site on the outskirts of the town saw the creation of an *award winning residential ‘village’ with 162no new homes along tree lined streets reflecting the character of the neighbouring conservation area of Uppleby.

Although a volume house-builder estate, the ‘standard house types’ were set aside and all the properties on the development were individually designed in response to the local vernacular, creating a new yet well rooted housing scheme with a true sense of place.
